Rivet the Trailing Edge
Assembly: Wings

Riveted the trailing edge with the shim making sure to keep both heads perpendicular to their respective skins.
BOTH FLAPS COMPLETED (as of 8/27/2006)! HURRAH! YAY! YIPPEE!

Rivet the Aft Spar to the Aft Ribs & Skin

Riveted the aft spar to the main ribs.
Riveted the upper and lower skin to the aft spar.

Rivet the Skin & the Upper Flanges of the Forward Spar/Aft Ribs

Riveted the upper flange of the forward spar.
Riveted the aft ribs using pop rivets.

Rivet the Skin to the Upper Flanges of the Nose Ribs

Flipped the assembly, checked for straightness, and cleco'd the upper skin.
Riveted the nose ribs using 1/8" blind rivets.
*We riveted the end ribs later since they are easily accessible and added the time in elsewhere.

Rivet the Lower Skin to the Nose Ribs & Spar Assembly

Riveted the skin to the forward spar making sure to keep the assembly straight.
Riveted the skin to the aft ribs (forward to back).
Riveted the nose ribs forward from the spar .

Rivet the Ribs to the Forward Spar

Riveted the nose and aft ribs to the forward spar using 1/8 rivets on the pairs and 1/32 on the rest.

Drill the Trailing Edge

Inserted the trailing edge shim between the skin and 'attached' with small bits of double-stick tape and pivoting clamps.
Placed a 2x4 underneath the trailing edge and rechecked the flap for any twist.
Drilled normal to the upper surface through the skins and the shim.

Position and Drill the Upper Surface of the Skin

Placed the flap right-side-up on the bench and supported with sections of 2x4.
Pulled the skin flush with the spar/rib assembly and held in place with clamps and straps.
Drilled/cleco'd the forward spar, aft ribs, and nose ribs respectively.

Drill the Lower Surface of the Skin

Drilled all rivet holes in the bottom of the skin with a #40 bit.
Followed typical drilling/cleco patterns and continued to check alignment and spacing throughout.

Clamp the Spar/Rib Assembly to the Table & Position the Skin

Clamped the skin to the spar assembly upside-down on the table.
Checked alignments with the rivet lines and with a digital level. Helped reduced twist by placing small blocks along the rear spar to keep it elevated.

Cleco the Ribs to the Spars and Drill Final Rivet Holes

Cleco'd the spar/rib assembly together making sure that all ribs (pairs A, B, & C especially) were in the correct location.
Drilled all holes except the rib pairs with a #40 and the pairs with a #30.
*NOTE: These times include both the right and left flaps. We did the left first and will use pictures from that since they look almost exactly the same ('cept that whole backwards-thing). The dates concur with the completion of the left flap... yes, we've been working since!*

Rivet the Reinforcement Angles & Deployment Arms to the Ribs of Pair B

Riveted using universal head rivets.

Clamped/cleco'd the reinforcement angles and the flap-track guide arms to their respective ribs (Pairs A and C).
Flush-riveted each hole.

Corrosion-Proof the Flap-Track & Deployment Arm Parts

Applied anti-corrosion protection on the flap-tracks, deployment arms, and their nose ribs and reinforcement angles.

Drill the Nose Rib Angles and Flap-Track/Deployment Arm Nose Ribs

Clamped the angles and ribs together, drilled the angles using the two 1/8" pre-punched rib web holes.
Matched up each nose rib pair (rib web, arm, angle), cleco'd through the 1/8" holes, and drilled the six pilot holes.
Countersunk all eight rivet holes in the flap track arms opposite the rib.
Deburred all holes.

Cut and Trim Nose Rib Reinforcement Angles

*Also included time for straightening and deburring the ribs.*
Measured and cut the nose rib reinforcements. Three for each flap.
Smoothed edges so that the reinforcement fit flush.
